Hero's Journey-- Module 2

Week 4 Multimobility

Connected learning
**I gravitated to this because I feel that it best represents what teachers and programs are trying to implement in the classroom. Students today have a broad range of skills and knowledge outside of the classroom that teachers need to tap into. How do students connect digital content, what students dialog's or discussions/games do students participate in and how can that be connected to what is being learned in the classroom.

Week 4 Challenge: 10 Ways to Dribble a Basketball

BIGGEST CHALLENGE/BIGGEST STRETCH

**I enjoyed this challenge the most and I was most proud of this creation: 10 Ways to Dribble a Basketball. I took on the 10 way challenge. I used Renderforest to make the video and Free Beats for the music. I enjoyed this task the most because I had one of my sons help me and he was really excited to be helping me out, as well as show casing his skills (and to also see himself on YouTube). Renderforest is a great resource: the editing, splicing, overlaying of text and audio/video was easy to do and it came out great. I will definitely be using this again. This was my biggest stretch because I have made other videos before and I have also found them challenging, but I have also continued to use the same platforms: Apple video or jing. This challenge had me look outside of my comfort zone and be creative with my topic

This is Water:

FAVORITE VIDEO

(My annotation)
This is Water... I love what it stands for. Adult existence...aka. Adulting---it's hard Boredom, routine, and petty frustrations... Mundane routines... the grocery store. creepy flimsy grocery cart. SUV intensive traffic, wow has this guy shopped at the Glendale King Soopers???
ALL about me...everybody else is just in my way..Choosing to think this way... easy and automatic [Natural Default Setting] Is this guy following me???
Aware enough to give yourself a choice... learn how to think and pay attention
This reminds me about the saying... Live in the moment
Consciously decide what has real meaning and what doesn't Capital T TRUTH---Life before Death Real education---Simple Awareness This is water... I know for me there are moments where I'm frustrated and exhausted, mentally emotionally, spiritually and I want to sit and not do anything, but reality comes rushing back when my son's ask me "What's for dinner." This is my water and I know Time Waits On No One and sometimes you have to remember to be Present in the moment.

**This was my favorite video to watch and annotate. I found it funny, relatable, and honest. It was an interesting take/topic for a commencement speech. My biggest takeaway from this video was-- To be present in the moment. I find that as transition from young adult to Adult-Adult, you realize that you can become more isolated and consumed by your thoughts or mundane daily routines. It's a choice that we don't consciously make, but we find ourselves swimming in this water called life and others are passing us by, but interactions or compassion leaves us. Like I annotated, Time waits on no one and we have to live in the moment or we miss out on things or we miss out on people.

Henry Jenkins on Participatory Culture

Kids do things they cared about after the school day was over!! Today is very much so a Participatory culture-- World Wide no expert, people are learning from each other. Social mode of production---- like a quilt. A ritual passed on. I love that, it's history new age. History now a days, political spectrum, is an active playground for youth as it is for legislators/political participants (AKA, Older folks) "Geeking out for Democracy" I love that!! Having been in a H.S. civics classroom last semester, I could see the students passion and individual spirit and "inner Geek" come out as we engaged with classroom content as well as transferring it to current events and what is happening in the US political arena. Harry Potter Alliance!! Why haven't I heard about this before!?? I love it 100K young people involved! WOW!!
I think it is amazing how young people are becoming participatory citizens and no matter what their interests are, in school, they feel that they can become involved and make a difference in their world. Feral children of the internet: Outside of school leaving kids to navigate the internet on their own..Leaves a lot of kids behind. w/out adult guidance, engagement, skill, and validation of that skill
--"Not snooping over their shoulders, but watching their backs" I think this statement is so perfectly put! I feel that telling a child or student the necessity of having adult check in's and guidance is for the betterment of them and their safety... Not to be nosy.
Changing Wikipedia.. how cool, and what a way to get a classroom engaged in the book and arguing for their position.. that is such a cool way to incorporate media and content!
Teachers Need Validation/encouragement too that what they are doing to right! Fighting the Good Fight

  • Changing Wikipedia was a great idea to provide students the opportunity to express their voice and understanding on a larger platform. I agree its definitely a great way to get students engaged.

**I also really liked this video on participatory culture. I think as a teacher it brought up valid points and good ideas to have our own students do or consider. These kids live in a different kind of society than I grew up in and the impact that they have on the narrative that goes on is really astounding. Good and Bad have come from full digital access and the most impactful thing I got from this video was that as the guiding adults we must be hyper aware and communicate to kids that we are "Not snooping over their shoulders, but watching their backs" I think this statement is so perfectly put! I feel that telling a child or student the necessity of having adult check in's and guidance is for the betterment of them and their safety... Not to be nosy."

Favorite Read and Annotate

** This was my favorite hypothes.is discussion because I feel that the conversation and comments were true to one's experiences. The statement from Professor about telling students and kids that they "could do anything they wanted to do" when they grow up as long was they work hard is not always factual. At my site school we had students at PD speak about equity in the classroom and in our school and one girl said that she didn't like when the adults said this statement to her because they had no resources to assist on making this happen or even that she had witnessed in her own home this statement in general as untrue. Her parents, as immigrants, work really hard to give her opportunities, yet she doesn't see their hard work paying off directly to them. She also said that a immigrants, or children of immigrants, or the black and brown students are told that they just have to work hard and they can achieve great things, when in actuality this is not true. The hardships faced are different and greater in number for them than their white counter parts. I find this statement important and this counter claim by this student to be important to keep in the forefront of my mind as a teacher and that I need to be able to provide insight, truth, and resources when I can.

Weekly Thing

**Making a GIF was fun, I had no ideas I was even capable. I find this a great way to have students connect content with technology and have them really play and have fun Our challenge was to do just this; create a GIF that represented some aspect of what was touched on in class thus far. Some my students are already really into making History memes, so this would up the ante.

Zoom Dialog- NSA Files Decoded

**This dialog was also another one of my favorites and something I will take away into my own future teaching career. First, the website NSA files decoded was set up so perfectly, it was interactive, informative, and had great use of primary resources. I would love to get to this point, where I would come up with a lesson structured like this website and as an exit ticket I would have student, from across the room, record their Zoom meeting, making connections and discussing prompted questions. I think this would be great for those students with lower ACCESS scores and simply allow for collaboration on a different level.

Week 6  Creative Commons

Weekly Thing

My most favorite resource I found was the FMA- Free Music Archive. It has a Creative Commons Licenses. What it is, is a "interactive library of legal audio downloads founded by legendary freeform radio station WFMU"
This resource is my favorite, because music is everything to me. I love having music to emphasize my moods or enhance my writing or cooking abilities. Music is essential throughout my day. I think that this website is really cool with how it has great music, all genres, and has a tab called curators that has super cool and fun "Oddio Overplay" I love all kinds of music and this showcases all kinds of music, artists, and talent. Great resource!

**I liked the tasks for week 6 because I was able to pull a lot of new resources to use. The FMA was really fun to play with and explore. {I was not able to download my audio onto this blog unfortunately} I have recently found out about Wikimedia commons, and have begun using it for my lessons!
