Case Study: commercial/high-quality digital story

Image
https://www.pbs.org/video/pov-hyphen-nation-armando/ Hyphen-Nation is a critical, personal, collection of digital stories. The compilation of 30+ stories is centered around the question: "The time I felt most American was..." Most of the stories both negative and positive focus on Americans that come from different backgrounds other than "White" Americans (although a few are showcased). The thing that I found important, that INTE 5340 was lacking a bit, in regards to another narrative, is the story and positioning of digital stories, opportunities, access, and identity for people of color. For me, being brown and viewed as the “other” a person not seen as “American” who will be teaching students much like me in background and physical characteristics teaching history…. I find it to be my obligation and duty to be mindful and consistent in the content I choose to teach and how I incorporate a marginalized narrative. Literally, the stories of “others” in American...

Conclusions ______ Module 5

Image
This is me, in the truest sense. I have worked and worked my brain, emotions, energy depleted, and anxiety, headaches, near tears, want to scream, not sure I could finish..... and then some! I am not sure what else there is to say... but thank goodness this is the end. I enjoyed the struggle and would have loved this class and all the tasks if I had more time to play with them and not feel so much pressure. Between my internship and SEHD classes and this class and family and team mom and tournaments and my relationship and life in general.... i am wiped.  Week 13 Challenge: K.Martin's Education Timeline https://time.graphics/line/d956839bb829f53c5315d9f93a63369c This was my biggest challenge. I could not get the Knightlab Timeline to work. I even watched three YouTube video's but couldn't get it to register my start dates. I decided to go a different route and found Timegraphics. It is not as cool as the other one but it still incorporates media and served it...

Culture Machine--- Module 4

Image
This Module was fun and more carefree. I enjoyed the idea of the culture machine and remixing. I have loved hip-hop and have heard remixes my entire life...but that goes for everyone. I really enjoyed the Everything is a Remix   weekly watch, I feel like for those who doubted how much sampling goes on, got clarification or affirmation that it has been happening and happens to all sorts of artist. I spoke about this in the hypothes.is discussion: I had not idea about the piecing and chopping up of literature by W. Burroughs. I'm sorry but metal and many other genres "knock off/sample" all the time, especially from the blues and black musicians. Many times musicians of color were not able to produce and get credit for their work or claim legal rights to it, so it was easily taken. Look at Elvis. "Zeppelin copied without making fundamental changes" This is key to the remix remastered and I think what artists can start to turn sour. I'm amazed how much en...

Module 3: Digital Identity

Image
The idea of digital identity and what our future is turning into is a bit creepy. In module three we took a look at: finding voice, alt-identities, and data identity. In week 7, the weekly watch Draw My Life was- Kelly Eden was pretty awesome. I found it to be an uplifting and creative way to tell your story and journey. She showcased her skills as an artist and was open and honest about her life and struggles. MissT333 from Wind made a good comment that I agreed with:     I love the concept of sketchnoting as a way of presenting information and especially a story. It's fun, engaging, and can be the modern generation of a picture-book I think. This is also a really great form of media for not only the advanced or avid artist like Kelly, but is even a great form of expression for someone who doodles or just likes the idea of trying to draw. You don't have to be an expert in order to tell your story in an engaging sketchnote video. I think this would be a great way ...

Hero's Journey-- Module 2

Week 4 Multimobility Connected learning ** I gravitated to this because I feel that it best represents what teachers and programs are trying to implement in the classroom. Students today have a broad range of skills and knowledge outside of the classroom that teachers need to tap into. How do students connect digital content, what students dialog's or discussions/games do students participate in and how can that be connected to what is being learned in the classroom.  Week 4 Challenge: 10 Ways to Dribble a Basketball BIGGEST CHALLENGE/BIGGEST STRETCH ** I enjoyed this challenge the most and I was most proud of this creation: 10 Ways to Dribble a Basketball. I took on the 10 way challenge. I used Renderforest to make the video and Free Beats for the music. I enjoyed this task the most because I had one of my sons help me and he was really excited to be helping me out, as well as show casing his skills (and to also see himself on YouTube). Renderforest is a great resourc...
